Golden Jubilee Concert

Posted February 1, 2008 by clounagh
Categories: Performances

Yesterday evening, Clounagh Junior High School held a Golden Jubilee Concert to celebrate it’s fiftieth year. In addition to our choir, many past pupils gave musical performances, including David Blevins, Jacquie Keegan (nee Byrne), Deborah Fleming (nee Best), Gordon Speers, David Millar, Ryan Gibb, Judith Cornett, Kenny Briggs, Linda Dougan (nee McCartney), and a band called Stonewall, featuring two past pupils. Thanks also to pupils from IB, who created a short video using photos from the school scrapbook, and to our “surprise cast” who performed a hilarious sketch. One particularly special moment was when members of the audience who were pupils of Clounagh in 1957 were invited onto the stage to receive a commemmorative medal. Enjoy a selection of photos from the evening.

Class AB designed a bullying noticeboard filled with posters and important websites with lots of information. We decided to have a Bullying Poster Competition featuring a very good prize. We had 53 entries, and they were all of a high standard, with lots of different designs. In first place was Stuart Walker (FR), second place was Tommy Black (GB), and third place Danella Forde (GB). All the posters so good that it was hard choosing the best.

Sainsburys donation gets pupils cooking

Posted December 10, 2007 by clounagh
Categories: Creativity, Fun

A big thank-you must go to Sainsburys supermarket, who kindly donated a selection of food items, so that we could take part in “Active Kids Get Cooking.” On Friday 5 October, eight Year 10 pupils made pizzas with a yeast dough base and various toppings, including passata, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, peppers, mixed herbs, cheddar, mozzarella & ricotta cheese. After having fun making and baking the pizzas, some of our staff willingly tasted them. Needless to say, all the comments were fantastic. We would like to thank all the food-testing teachers and especially a big thank-you to Mrs. Mawhinney and Mrs. Neill for organising this event and allowing us to take part.

Comments:

  • Mr. Hill: “Excellent. Very tasty and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you.”
  • Mrs. Clarke: “Lovely tomato/cheese pizza, greatly enjoyed. Well done.”
  • Mr. Montgomery: “Wonderful pizza. The taste was great and the base exceptional.”
  • Mr. Bell: “Crispy base. Light. Tangy tomatoes, not overpowering, and fresh. As good as shop-bought.”
  • Mrs. Maginn: “Very impressive. Bread base is great. Can’t believe you made this.”
  • Mr. Carville: “Excellent pizza. Can’t believe this was a first attempt.”

Clounagh novel raises money for orphanage

Posted October 11, 2007 by clounagh
Categories: Charity, Creativity

Chion is a science fiction novel written by Clounagh’s ICT technician Darryl Sloan. It is the story of a bizarre national disaster that leaves everyone in the country imprisoned inside their buildings, unable to step outside without deadly consequences. The main setting of the novel is Clounagh Junior High School, where 700 pupils and staff are trapped, running out of food, with no hope of rescue. Long-term survival seems impossible, unless someone can figure out a solution before mass panic sets in.

The novel is being sold to school pupils to raise money for Katya Vancheva Orphanage in Bulgaria, priced £4. £2 from each sale will be donated to the orphanage. Around 130 copies have been sold so far, raising £260. In recent years, Clounagh has established a relationship with Katya Vancheva Orphanage. Pupils who take part in the annual ski trip will have opportunity to visit the place, meet the children, and present them with gifts and money raised through various school fundraising events, like this one.
